About Us

Mission Statement

The Family Focus Medical Clinics are committed to providing high quality, acute medical care in a clean and friendly environment at hours that are convenient for the members of the community we serve.

Tired of waiting for hours in the ER?

The Family Focus Medical Clinics are “walk in” style medical clinics where patients can be treated by a qualified, licensed physician for their acute medical needs in a timely manner.  These clinics are ideal for patients who do not have an established family physician or are not able to see their own family physician.  Not all acute medical problems need the resources and expertise of the Emergency Department and most “minor” medical problems that you would normally see your family physician for can be effectively managed at one of the Family Focus Medical Clinics.  A visit to one of the Family Focus Medical Clinics may save you several hours of waiting in the waiting room of one of the local Emergency Departments.

We offer an alternative to the Emergency Department for your acute minor medical needs at hours that are convenient for you and your family.  All four of the Family Focus Medical Clinics operate as "walk in" clinics, however, there are family physicians with family practices at the Dartmouth and Joseph Howe Drive clinics.  We will inform your family physician of your visit to one of our clinics by forwarding a copy of your clinic chart to them for you.  This allows for good continuity in your medical care by keeping your family physician informed of any medical treatments that are initiated at one of the Family Focus Medical Clinics.

Most of the medical services offered at the Family Focus Medical Clinics are covered by your provincial medical insurance (i.e. MSI) so it is important to bring your Health Card with you when you visit the clinics.  Some services such as ear syringing, wart treatment, Drivers Medical Examinations and others are not covered by MSI so the cost of these services is the responsibility of the patient.  The clinic accepts cash, debit and VISA and will issue a receipt for any services for which the patients incurs a charge.

Other Medical Services Offered

Women's Health ClinicsWomen's Health Clinics are offered several Saturday mornings each month at each clinic with the exception of the Joseph Howe Drive location where these clinics are offered on the 3rd Friday morning of every month.  These clinics are staffed by female physicians and give female patients the opportunity to have their annual Pap smear and breast examination done.  Or you might like to have some birth control or menopause counseling. An appointment is required for these clinics so you should call during clinic hours to speak with the reception staff for details regarding the next Women’s Health Clinic time.

Blood Collection Service is also offered at each clinic.  There is a fee for this service which can be paid by cash or cheque. I would direct you to the Other Services page on this web site for the specific times that the blood collection service is offered at each clinic.

Wart Treatment: Treatment is available at each clinic for warts. The substance used is very similar to liquid nitrogen and treats the wart by freezing and killing the skin cells that are infected with the wart virus. Thicker warts may require more than one treatment. There is a fee charged to the patient for this treatment.

Suturing of minor lacerations: At all of our clinics we have sterilized medical instruments that allow us to suture minor lacerations.

NEW! Osteoporosis Screening Program: Osteoporosis is preventable and treatable, but only if diagnosed early enough to receive effective therapy. Are you one of 1.4 million men and women with Osteoporosis? This gradual loss of bone mass, generally beginning about the age of 35, is a fact of life for everyone. After growth is complete, women ultimately lose 30 to 50 percent of their bone density, and men lose 20 to 30 percent. This loss of bone mass increases your risk of fracture. The current waiting time to have a bone density done in a hospital in the HRM is over one year!  Why wait? Click here to learn where to call to book your appointment, and cost details.

Flu Shot Clinics are held at each clinic (with the exception of the Joseph Howe Drive location) and the influenza vaccine is also available during the regular clinic hours at each of the clinics in the fall (starting in late October).  The Flu Shot Clinic dates for each clinic are posted in the fall of the year and can be found on the Other Services page on this web site.

The clinics are managed by Mrs. Sandra Thomas, who has over 25 years experience in the field of medical management.  The Medical Director of the Family Focus Medical Clinics is Dr. Mark Fletcher.

Any questions or concerns that you might have regarding the service or treatment that you received at any of the Family Focus Medical Clinics should be directed to either Mrs. Thomas or Dr. Fletcher.  Their contact information is readily available by contacting any of the clinics.
